There’s no doubt about it, most of us are feeling socially and emotionally distant during COVID-19. As the days and weeks merge together, people are doing their best to create meaningful interactions and special memories with friends, co-workers, family, and neighbors while staying at least six feet apart. Landis+Gyr employees are sharing #CoronaKindness in their communities by finding creative ways to close the distance while flattening the curve.
Cleber Sathler, quality coordinator, found a great way to bring joy to his team members during their daily “happy meeting.” While skeptical at first, he asked his team if they wanted him to play a few songs on the piano. Of course, they loved the idea of an impromptu concert, “It was very fun, a little moment of joy in a turbulent time. For sure, everyone´s weekend started as no one could expect – in a positive way,” said Sathler.

RF Technician, Bradley Pitman, shared how his neighborhood is making routine daily walks a little more fun for families stuck at home: “My neighborhood has come together to put cheerful signs on doors and windows for all walkers to see.”
Manager Global R&D Devices PMO, Eric Ayala’s neighborhood hasn’t forgotten that although we’re stuck at home, we should still celebrate another year around the sun. His family has orchestrated several “birthday parades” for children in their community. Instead of a traditional party, they get a special birthday parade lined with cars decorated with signs, balloons, and pom-poms. The cars drive by the birthday boy’s or girl’s home honking horns and blasting celebratory music. Eric says the small things his community does to bring neighbors together mean the most, “It's the little things that bring the BIG SMILES.”

Not only are adults sharing #CoronaKindness, teens stuck in quarantine are sharing smiles too. Director of Corporate Human Resources, Jennifer Bezek’s daughter, Ainsley has found a way to bring a little joy to the elementary kids in her neighborhood. Dubbing herself the “QuaranTeen,” Ainsley started dropping bags of goodies and notes to homes in her neighborhood with elementary school-aged children. As word spread about the “QuaranTeen”, children started leaving their bags at their mailboxes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Ainsley and her friend drop off a “challenge” in each bag to encourage youngsters to share kindness in their homes. Activities include a chalk-drawing challenge, scavenger hunts, and doing something nice for parents. Jennifer says that Ainsley is having the best time bringing smiles to the kids, “She is having a great time and it’s keeping her busy when she’s not in digital school.”
Employees are also finding ways to stay connected and share kindness with busy family members who are essential workers. Diane McBeth, director of software & services delivery, shared #CoronaKindness with her son, Tyler who is working on the front lines at NYU in the ICU unit. She sent him a care package with flowers to brighten his day. She encourages everyone to send a special thank you to those who are fighting COVID-19, “Send a little something to cheer up the homes of medical staff fighting this battle on the front lines and those who are working to make it possible for the nurses and doctors to do their jobs.”
As our CEO of the Americas, Prasanna Venkatesan said, “It’s the people that make Landis+Gyr a great place to work.” Our employees continue to find new ways to give back to their communities and we love sharing their stories.
