Large amounts of grid data is being generated from the millions of deployed smart meters, sensors and grid devices. Grid data collected in hand, utilities are challenged to not only manage the data, but to turn the data into useful business intelligence. Dedicated to helping utilities extract value from grid data, Landis+Gyr participated in the Utility Analytics Week (UAW) 2016 Conference at the end of October in Atlanta, Georgia.

Backed by Energy Central’s Utility Analytics Institute, UAW brought together more than 450 analytics champions from around the world to participate, collaborate and learn about the latest grid analytics advances, and present new analytics innovation. The conference consisted of breakout sessions, technology tracks and keynote speeches from utility executives and industry thought leaders. The event expo featured approximately 25 analytics vendors exhibiting a wide-range of data analytics programs, all developed to aid utilities in meeting electric industry needs.

With a theme of Intelligent Grid Planning, the Landis+Gyr Advanced Grid Analytics team networked with colleagues and industry stakeholders to showcase Landis+Gyr’s comprehensive Advanced Grid Analytics platform, which is designed to plan, manage and operate an intelligent grid. The team connected with several existing and prospective customers on how to leverage analytics to help make smarter decisions with the right tools, at the right time, to elevate grid performance and reliability.

In Landis+Gyr’s breakout session entitled, Leveraging Meter Data Analytics to Maximize Asset Life, Landis+Gyr’s Dr. Soorya Kuloor highlighted the value an analytics platform can bring to the entire utility enterprise. Landis+Gyr’s customer CenterPoint Energy’s Director of AMS, John Toubassi, joined Dr. Kuloor in the breakout session to share details on how CenterPoint Energy leveraged an IT infrastructure investment to improve their AMI driven Transformer Load Management business process.

Committed to helping utilities utilize and unlock the vast possibilities of grid data analytics, this year’s UAW offered additional awareness, exploration and education on how to pinpoint and resolve utility data concerns. With an exchange of information, methods and experiences, UAW participants, presenters and exhibiters demonstrated how analytics can solve the data management challenges utilities face today and in the future, making our smart grid even smarter.
